On 4 April 2017, the Archives and Publications Cell (APC) at IISc launched its lecture series which aims to bring experts in communication, history, archiving, policy, and publishing to the Institute. The first talk in this series was given by TV Venkataswaran, a science communicator from Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology.
In his talk titled The Art of Science Communication, Venkateswaran argued that modern science is counter intuitive and invokes entities unfamiliar in everyday experience. This, he said, made communication of science a daunting challenge. He claimed that one way in which this challenge could be overcome would be to deploy metaphors, vivid descriptions, and other such literary strategies.
