On behalf of IISc, its Director Anurag Kumar received two plaques on 10 April 2017 from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) – one for being ranked No. 1 in the “Overall” category for institutions of higher learning in India, and the other for receiving the top place among Indian universities. The rankings are brought out by NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) under the auspices of MHRD. IISc has been ranked India’s best university for the second year running. In 2016, when the rankings were first launched, the “Overall” category did not exist.
